I caught his look he tried to get away but I was all that he had to play. You can’t try to love and I got away. You said the words that I needed to hear. I caught myself shattered before the frame. And Lord, I know that I can love again. And Lord, I know I can’t. I gave myself to a man who took all that I am and made me fearful. I can’t breathe - overflow. I can’t breathe anymore. I have cried my eyes out a thousand rivers and I can’t see straight anymore. Won’t you come save my soul, love? Would you battle far and wide for a dove? Would you take it upon yourself to love me? I know we both waited too long. Would you battle far and wide for a dove? Would you take it upon yourself to love me?

Glow 03:35
O’ Lord, I wanna go. O’ Lord, I wanna go. South where freedom flows. O’ Lord, I wanna’ go. I lie the way west. The treetops they glow. I saw your eyes. They were blessed. And no way I know. I look for help. I try to stay. Alive in my home. Baby, go. I am here. Calling. You a way to go. I lie the way west. The treetops …

Ride 04:26
I know the fire. See yourself like desire. I churn. Your eye alone. The thorn you never let go. You lay high. Your tide low. You lay high. You say: "Hello". We ride. High time alone. You got out. O’ you got out. You got out. You got out. O’ o’ o’. O’ hello, hello. Hello. O’ ooooh hello. Hello?

Gold 06:22
You tumbled. The way you moved. Lavender on your shoulders. And I was moved. The sky it was purple. You told me you were hurting and all that I saw when I awoke was the world. And we try to love one another like before and we try to love one another like before. And I see, I see gold in the shadows the stories old. The tree before me cascaded into liberty. And I hold your hand and I try to understand why we ended that day, before. And I can’t feel alive without you in my life. And you were my friend, my lover, let’s not pretend. I wake at the thought of you. I try to get through my day. I sleep in the stars that come through the ceiling in a thorny way. And I shelter in your memory and the beach that we walked at low tide and the shells, we picked and the words on which fought. And I know that I’ll be right, that I’ll get through this night. That I’ll shake it all off, the damage, the dirt and the scorn. And we, we will meet again on the road where we do, devouring each other, like we do. I look to you. I try to make sense of what we put down to coincidence. But I try not to look for some kind of sign that all of this was written in the stars for you and I. For you and I.

Body Down 04:25
Baby, hold my body down. Hold my teeth, I won’t make a sound. Die if you like! I see your face in the night. Keep to yourself. I know your smell. I’ll walk by my own. I’ll die for no man. I’ll worry to myself. I can’t understand. How are you here? I said “Go away”. Where we’re living is a man’s world. A man’s world! I keep my distance from you ‘cos it’s for the best. I know no reason to get out of bed. But you’re high on your manhood. You said you’re a revolutionary! You saw ten thousand stars looking right at me. Take your word and deliver it to the God. You said you were faithful but faithful you are not! You cheating man I saw you do, you know, you see it too. Hail now! Go and lose yourself. I’m talking to you don’t you care for someone else! I’m seeing stars at night like I did back before I met you.

In Nina Simone’s Gum (2021), Nick Cave's partner in crime, fellow Bad Seed and back-turning veteran of The Dirty Three, Warren Ellis: ‘I wanted the narrative to be in free flight all the time…so you didn’t know what it was exactly, because I didn’t.'

Body Down (Live) is an intimate studio performance recorded at St. Mary's Space, Appin, in a day's recording session, in April, 2021. The tumbling song cycle of experiments and intensities on autoharp, mandolin, hand drum, guitar, voice, harmonium, bones & rain shaker lend the album a primal emotional landscape, and a Southern Gothic vibe, which echoes the deluge of rain which fell for three days solid. Track 8, "Blue Valentine" (String Reprise) feat. Glasgow-based composer Dr Rūta Vitkauskaitė's violin, was used on the official music video, set in the wilds of Glencoe, directed by Scottish filmmaker, founder of Wild Room, and BAFTA New Talent Awardee, Simone Smith.
